Before the Surgery
- Please follow the instructions provided by your doctor.
- Print and fill out the Eye Surgery Center patient forms
The Day of your Surgery
- Do not eat or drink anything the day of your surgery.
- You may continue to take medications for heart conditions and high blood pressure (except diuretics) with a sip of water. No other medications may be taken, especially any oral diabetic medications and insulin.
- Do not smoke before your surgery.
- Be sure to wear comfortable clothes. Shirts should be short sleeved and button-up. No wool or “fuzzy” clothing.
- Do not wear make-up, perfume, or jewelry.
- You should expect to be at the center for about 2 1/2 hours.
- Please arrange for a driver to take you home after the surgery.
Post Surgery Care
The following are general guidelines. Be sure to follow the instructions that your surgeon provides when you are released after the procedure.
- Continue using your prescription eye drops. For pain or discomfort, you may take over the counter pain medications such as Tylenol.
- Be sure to keep the eye clean and dry. Do not press or bump the eye.
- Do not wear eye make-up for at least a week after surgery.
- Wear dark sunglasses when outdoors in the daytime.
- You should be able to resume most of your normal activities within a few days.
- Avoid swimming pools or hot tubs until your eye is completely healed.
- Driving may be resumed with your surgeon’s approval.
- Call your doctor’s office immediately if you experience sudden or dramatically increased eye pain, decreased vision, or flashes and floaters.
